Somewhere Around Here is a clear departure from my earlier works, including my previous series Gazing Through the City, where I presented reimagined vistas by altering familiar skylines of my city of residence, Tehran, and surrounding them with lush landscapes reminiscent of my childhood home. However, here, I take a different approach. I confront the city directly, “standing face-to-face with it”, looking directly into its edges and niches and transferring my process of observation onto canvas and paper.
In these artworks, I portray a city that appears devoid of inhabitants, a Tehran stripped of its people. Despite Tehran’s reputation as a bustling metropolis, I believe this series captures the true essence of the city – a place filled with emptiness and shrouded in a profound, deafening silence.
